Problem

Creating a high fidelity replica for an exclusive trophy

The Dream Factory was looking for an innovative solution for its awards, something that not only had a striking aesthetic, but also captured the essence of science and technology. The concept was clear: a a faithful replica of a Zeiss microscope, with all its details and finishes, that could be delivered as trophy in recognition of researchers and scientists.

1

Procedure

Reverse Engineering and 3D Scanning to capture every detail

To ensure that the replica was a faithful representation of the original microscope, we started with a high-precision 3D scanning, capturing everything from the overall structure to the smallest reliefs and textures of the original device.

Subsequently, a modelling process and file clean-upThe design was optimised for 3D printing without losing a single detail and imperfections in the scan were corrected.

2

Improve

For this project, we opted for the SLA resin printing due to its ability to reproduce ultra fine details and provide a smooth surface, ideal for high aesthetic applications.

Thanks to the SLA, we were able to obtain a part with pmicrometric recisionfaithfully replicating the tiniest details, durability and resilienceensuring that the trophy maintains its appearance over time.

Summary of the case

At Additium3D, we don't just offer 3D printing, we offer end-to-end additive manufacturing solutions. Our expertise ranges from consultancy and design to production and final finishing, ensuring that each project is realised with the utmost precision and fidelity.

A clear example of our commitment to excellence is the partnership with The Dream FactoryZeiss, for the creation of replica Zeiss microscopes, used as trophies in its prestigious scientific awards.

This success story highlights 3D printing as an alternative for trophies and personalised marketinga work that starts from the 3D scanning of an original and ends with works of finish such as the electroplating or personalisation of details.

Benefits

Detailed scanning

Imperfections in the scanning were corrected and adjustments were made to the thicknesses of certain sections to ensure the durability and stability of the final part.

Micrometric accuracy

We opted for the SLA resin printing. We use our Form 4L by FormlabsThe resin printer, one of the most advanced resin printers on the market, allowed us to manufacture the replicas in one piece or in assemblable segments to facilitate the finishing and reinforce the structure.

High-strength resin

The choice of resin was also key. We opted for a high-strength resinwith properties that allow subsequent finishing and painting without compromising the integrity of the part.
